MBFWJ SS16/17 - Marianne Fassler
Leopard Frock did not compromise on a dazzling Spring collection.
Is watching a Marianne Faster show really all that different from watching the olympics? You’re witnessing an athlete (designer) who’s the best of the best: experienced, trained, prepared, extraordinary. Nothing was compromised - the (plus minus) 40-look collection throughly immersed us in the Leopard Frock universe. You know the drill: florals, animal print, pleats, and utility. This season’s florals, inspired by paper cutouts, felt stark (in a good way) and consequently fresh. The fan-favourites were all the military moments: cargo dresses, trousers and jackets intermingled with aforementioned elements plus fringing and lace.
The way in which all these elements are brought together (often in one outfit) deserves the gold medal. It’s extraordinary to see the ease with which seemingly contrasting fabrics, prints, and styles are mashed up in a way that seems convincing, desirable, and completely unique. It’s eclectic in a way that reflects South African society: it’s vibrancy and diversity. It’s also fun, beautiful, and ready for the sunny season.
The Look: Eclectic chic.
The Key Piece: The floral shift.
Accessories Game: Sparkly gold heels, gold metallic gloves, and floral bangles.
We're Dreaming About: The belted floral dress with utility collar and sleeves.
Where to Wear: Post-safari cocktails on the deck at sunset.
