BBB#5: JCDC - Pick Of The Crop

posted by Chris Kilchling at Wed, 25 Jul, 2012 at 11:09

How do you choose one brand to write about out of a pool of so many amazing brands? Well, you have to pick the one that wants it most. When I turned a corner in the Style Society section at BBB, I found myself facing the JCDC stand, and it was just shouting for my attention.

Being a graphic designer fashion guy, it is primarily colour, texture and anything bold and graphic that grabs my attention, and few do 'graphic fashion' better than Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. I have visually 'stumbled over' this brand many times before, usually when browsing through the Paris Fashion Week image banks, with their collection being the odd one out, in the best of ways.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, ever the visionary experimenter, has found his latest adventure in JCDC, his young label, founded in 2010. In the tradition of the 'wearable art movement' of the 80's, this brand is an homage to pop art, and every single piece is a graphic statement.

I found it especially exciting to see how his young graphic designer has mixed in African elements and combined it with his whimsical, hand-drawn style. I'm loving the deconstructed, over-sized leopard spots in blue and black, and the zebra-flash pattern on the skinnies. Have a closer look at the leopard head all-over print. Remind you of something?

JCDC stays true to the core of the Castelbajac brand. It is a statement, bold, fearless and fun.

I hope they never stop playing!
