Coconut Oil 3-way

Sorry guys, not that kind of 3-way. Coconut oil is a huge favourite of ours and lately it’s been given tons of attention due to all of its health and beauty benefits. It has a very low melting point that makes it wonderful for DIY lotions and potions as it’s absorbed very quickly by the skin. Coconut oil is also the closest in pH, fat and nutrients to human breast milk so our bodies know what to do with it. Who knew! Here are a few ways to utilise this wonder oil:

The Sea Salt Spray

For some lovely beach waves combine the following:

1 tbsp sea salt

1 tsp water based hair gel

1 ½ tsp coconut oil, melted (I just turned the hairdryer on the spoon for a minute til it all melted)

1 cup of hot water

Mix them all in a squirt bottle and give it a good shake. If you want some more softness you can add a bit (half a teaspoon should be alright) of liquid glycerin or conditioner.  Squirt in your hair and scrunch! Here's a quick demo from Jess.

1. Begin with clean, dry hair

2. Give it a good dousing with your sea salt spray

3. Scrunch and really work it in there

4. Release your inner beach babe!

The Moisture Packed Face Cleanser

3 tbsp coconut oil, melted

1 tbsp honey

5 raw almonds (I smashed mine in a Pestle and Mortar- grind according to how much of an exfoliation you want)

Mix the crushed almonds with the honey.  Slowly pour in the melted coconut oil. Cover and leave to set. When you’re ready to slough the day off, scoop about half a teaspoon into your hands and rub together to melt the coconut oil again and massage into the skin. This will remove your make-up like a dream and also give you a gentle exfoliation. The honey is a natural antiseptic so it will help keep everything nice and clean while the ground almonds are a natural source of vitamin E. Use a hot face cloth to remove the homemade oil cleanser.

The Winter Wonder Body Exfoliator

A few drops vanilla essence

¼ cup coconut oil, melted

½ cup of ground coffee

Melt your coconut oil and add the coffee grounds and vanilla. Allow it to cool in your chosen container so that it is more manageable later. Use a spoon to scoop out your exfoliator and get buffing. A good tip is to apply and leave the exfoliator on the skin for at least half an hour. The coconut oil is a good source of lauric acid which helps to break down any nasty bacteria and germs. The vanilla essence is also calming to the skin. When you’re ready, buff the grounds (coffee = great for cellulite) and rinse with warm water. Enjoy baby softness whilst smelling like a baked good!

Love,
