Raf Simons does Dior Couture Fall 12
Hello Raf Simons, and congrats on your first couture collection for Dior. A unique approach to the Christian Dior’s 1950s “New Look”, which lets not all forget Balenciaga actually created in prior to 1947! Cheeky fact for the day!
Raf Simons took a “new” methodology and revamped the fifties New Look, with black peplums galore and metal rings around the waist. The collection transcended from a modern feel of simple shapes and silhouettes, (let us not forget between him and Phoebe Philo “less-is-more” may ass well be their mantra!) to more intricate beaded details and Monet inspired prints. We also saw strong pops of primary colours such as blue and red.
The collection did not WOW every inch of my core, I have a far higher and more detailed expectance of couture (don’t judge me, I like to dream)but I did fall in love with certain aspects of it; a room filled with a million flowers? Invite me anytime; I’ll just stare at the walls if the fashion begins to bore. The dresses with colour washes/ tie-dye/ a mush of Monet’s Museum really caught my eye as the print vs. the silhouette really are a breathe of fresh air. Also the pink and midnight blue peplum dress over a pair of silk trousers is a truly classic and utterly delicious take on a suit.
Claps for Simons. A diverse and entertaining show to say the least!
